Roy and Sarah Prevost have been lecturing on Cruise Ships since 2008. They have worked with the following cruise lines:
• Celebrity
• Holland America
• Princess
• Royal Caribbean
In 2015, they founded the Cruise Speaker Academy and have helped countless retired professors, lecturers and professional speakers realize their dream of becoming cruise speakers and travelling the world for free.
What makes the Cruise Speaker Academy unique in the cruise speaker agency world?
We are unique, in that we do not charge a per diem fee to our graduates for any cruises.
We ask for an investment in our training, mentoring and coaching program initially and that is the extent of the financial commitment.
We do not believe that a retired professor, speaker, lecturer should pay a per diem, for the privilege of speaking aboard a cruise ship.
What kind of accommodations can we expect on the cruise ship?
It depends on the cruise line and whether the cruise ship is fully booked. As a first leg, we were given a luxury suite with a balcony. This is somewhat unusual, however, we have experienced this before, although it is not a common experience.
For the second leg, we were given a handicap designated suite. This was a first for us. The bedroom was extra large and the bathroom was enormous, altogether, a unique experience and very enjoyable.
For the third leg, we got a standard suite with a floor to ceiling window.
To summarize: we need to be flexible and open to whatever the cruise line gives us and generally it is very acceptable.
Do the cruise lines cover all amenities on my cruise?
No, any extras such as alcohol, spa sessions, and extras are on your account. Depending on the cruise line, it can be quite expensive. I recommend that you ask your speaker coach about some strategies to save you money on your cruise.
Do you guarantee that I will be hired by the cruise lines following your training?
Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee that you will be hired. I can promise you that I will give you everything I know and the exact details of the process Sarah & I use to get hired by the cruise lines.
How can I justify my investment in this workshop?
Good Question, let me share some information about a recent cruise we took with Celebrity from Southampton England to St. Petersburg Russia.
It was a 16 day cruise and I was asked to deliver 6 – 35 minute lectures on sea days.
If you were to purchase 2 tickets for this cruise, this is the breakdown of the costs for a typical cruise
Full disclosure: This was the standard pricing and cruise lines can offer discounts depending on their situation so this pricing is a guideline only and all fares are approximate
Airfare from Vancouver BC to London Heathrow
• (1 person airfare return for Sarah, my airfare is paid) $700 US
• 2 cruise tickets @ $7039 US = $14,078 US
• Or in Canadian dollars $19,614
PLEASE NOTE: This is for one cruise only, keep in mind, once you are approved by the cruise line, you are there for life and you can request as many cruises as you want for the rest of your life.
Without overstating, your investment is peanuts compared to the long term value you will acquire.
By holding several workshops for so many cruise speaker attendees, aren’t you in danger of flooding the market with cruise speakers?
Between the different cruise lines (Holland America, Princess and Royal Caribbean alone), they do 500+ itineraries per year. Every year they search for valid cruise speakers and from personal experience, there is never a danger of flooding the market
Does every cruise itinerary require a cruise speaker?
No, typically cruise lines hire speakers on itineraries of 5 sea days or more. There are occasions where cruise itineraries require a specific speaker such as an anthropologist or a naturalist and those are usually Alaska Cruises.
